Best Questions to Ask in an Interview

Asking great questions during your interview doesn’t necessarily mean that you are guaranteed to get the job. However, asking the right questions will help you stand out from a large pool of applicants that are also vying for the same position as well as give you more insight into whether or not you will really be a good fit for the company.

We’ve put together our list of the best questions to ask in an interview along with the reasons why you should be asking them if you aren’t already.

What are your company’s current goals? How is your team working to achieve them?

This is one of the best questions to ask in an interview early on in the hiring process. While you may have stalked the company’s social media and read every piece of information available on the company’s website, these resources are not able to give you a full picture of the company’s current goals.

What do the day-to-day duties of this role look like?

Making sure that you and your potential employer are on the same page in terms of the responsibilities and duties of your future role is extremely important. This is one of the best questions to ask in an interview and will ensure that you and your employer will not encounter any unnecessary confusion once you have been placed in the position.

How is success measured? What does this look like specifically for my role?

If you want to succeed in your role, you must first understand how to achieve this success. Not only does this question illustrate your interest in the company, asking this question also shows your motivation to perform well if hired.

How long have you and your coworkers been with this company?

While on the surface this question may not seem like much, it is actually one of the best questions to ask in an interview to uncover more than an employee’s average time spent at the company. The interviewer, when posed this question, will often first reflect on their own experience. This can open the door to additional, more specific questions that you would like to ask the interviewer concerning culture.

Staff Force Pro Tip: While it may be tempting to ask the question, “What is your company’s turnover rate?” it may work against you during the interview. Instead, opt for asking about current employees and their history with the company.
