Job Search Motivation: Maximizing Your Job Search During the Holiday Season

We often talk about the physical labor required of us in a job search. The research of roles, resume updates, job applications and attending interviews. However, the less discussed and arguably just as important mental labor we put forth in a job search can often tax us further than the physical labor. Behind every physical piece of applying for and landing a new role, there is an array of decisions you are making in order to decide what opportunities are worth pursuing. All of this mental labor adds up over time and can lead to your job search motivation dwindling.

As the holiday season approaches, many organizations are looking to hire additional team members to help them keep their productivity high and meet customer demand during their busiest season.

According to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report provided to Reuters, 520,000 new jobs are expected to be added this year in Q4 to accommodate demand during the holiday season. In order to take advantage of these openings, here are some ways you can keep your job search motivation high while on the hunt for a new role.

Establish Goals

Establishing goals is the easiest way to stay organized and on track in your job search. Goals will allow you to structure your time more effectively and provide you with a path to look back on should any adjustments need to be made in your journey to a new role.

Pace Yourself

It’s always tempting to start out of the gate as fast as possible when motivation is high. In reality, it’s important to pace yourself as the effort in job searching is easier in the beginning when motivation comes easily. This unrealistic effort becomes harder to maintain over time and can often lead to burnout. Now you face the issue of potentially not putting your best foot forward on your applications. Not over-exerting yourself in your job search day to day will be the key to high-quality applications for potential employers.

Celebrate Wins

The job search can be hard for a multitude of reasons. So it’s important to take the time and celebrate your successes along the way. Whether it be hitting an application goal, landing an interview you were really hoping for, or getting that new role, it’s so important to acknowledge all of the efforts you put in to further your career!

At Staff Force, we know job search motivation can be hard to maintain. This is why we work with our candidates to pair them with roles that they will love. We want to ease the mental strain of looking for a new role and let you focus on the value you bring to the table as an employee. Reach out to us today to begin the search for your new role.
