Career Resolutions for 2022

career resolutions

We all want to succeed, to become more. Whether you are new to the working world or have been in it for over 20 years, you can take advantage of the new year’s fresh start to devise career resolutions for 2022. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Tip #1: Set Your Priorities

What career resolutions do you want to achieve in 2022? Do you want to earn a higher salary, be promoted, switch locations, or do something else? We highly recommend taking the time to evaluate what is most important to your career plan and why. Remember to analyze how these changes to your professional life will affect your personal life as well.

Tip #2: Devise Multiple Plans of Action

There is no one path to achieve a career resolution. For example, if you wanted to earn a higher salary, you could seek a promotion, switch to a different company, take on a side hustle, or another alternative. We recommend mapping out multiple plans of action before getting started. By critically planning a few different methods to achieve your goal, you can determine which option is appropriate for you.

Tip #3: Create a “Me-First” Mind Set

Often when an employee is excellent at their job, they tend to be assigned more projects or pick up the slack for their colleagues. While it is great to help out, it is vital to set clear boundaries between you and your colleagues and managers to ensure that you are being treated fairly. Your extra time should be spent furthering your own goals and projects rather than always being a scapegoat for others.

Tip #4: Schedule New Habits & Practices

Now that you are focusing more on furthering your goals, it is time to implement new habits and practices to ensure that you meet them. Tip #2, devising a plan of action, should include details you can pursue every day, such as networking, learning new skills, or another effort to help you reach your career resolutions.

In addition to scheduling new habits and practices, you should ditch inefficient ones. By kicking time wasters or meaningless tasks to the curb, you streamline your efforts to be as effective as possible.

Tip #5: Honestly Evaluate Progress

Action is nothing without evaluation. At all stages of career development, it is crucial to honestly evaluate how you are performing and the progress you have made towards your career resolutions. Self-evaluation can be challenging, so we recommend speaking with your managers, colleagues, life coach, friends, and family to get their input on your progress. However, we caution you to take what they say with a grain of salt as they do not know your actions as well as you do.
